Lecture and Assignment, Friday, 20 August 2010

Yes, I am repeating the dates with my title. But that's ok, let's just get down to the gist of today's integrated studio lecture and assignment.

Today's lecture was supposed to be on Formal Structure to be conducted by Sr. Mohd. Zahry, but somehow he couldn't make it so Encik Wan had to take over.

Mr. Wan talked briefly about paradigm paralysis (kelumpuhan paradigma) and also anjakan paradigma, translated to be a paradigm shift in English. He also reminded us on the paradigm we function by in the studio, and that is 3P - People, Place, Principle.

We submitted our report on the Times Square Merdeka Countdown event and received comment from Mr. Wan about the way we presented our reports. One thing he said that I clearly remember is "Good ideas must be put on good paper. Good paper must be bound in a good manner". He said that his teacher told him that once upon a time, and I have to agree. You can be sure that I will live by it.

He also touched on form and space.
Here's a couple of things he said that particularly stood out to me (and that I have rephrased):
*Form cannot exist or have no meaning without space.
*Colours hide or enchance form.

By the way, time is very important in design. It is the 4th dimension (aside from length, width and depth) and is essential in all kinds of design. For instance, how on planet earth do you propose to to design something without being gifted with time?

We were also given another assignment. It's to prepare for a theatrette performance, but about that I will share with you another time (as in after the performance).

That's enough rambling for now, hope this image speaks a little something to you.

By the way, I do not plagiarize!
