As the year 2012 approaches, many speculate incidents of severe natural disasters to take place. These disasters may wipe out the earth's population. Relating to Penang island, there may be future floods as global sea water level continue to rise, coupled with possible storms and tsunami disasters. In order to survive these probable situations, the PONDOK and IBU system has been invented.
Notes:
1. IBU is equipped with similar provisions as PONDOK but in larger quantities.
2. IBU operates as life-saving raft, clinic, central control unit, floating conference hall, PONDOK activities monitor and PONDOK detector among others.
3. IBU is engine operated and comes with navigation tools.
4. The IBU is expected to survive 40 days and nights of battering.
My task is to adopt USM inventions and design a survival kit from the inventions. This kit then goes on to the IBU and I am to show how it is used by IBU during a time of disaster.
According to Wikipedia, a survival kit is package of tools and supplies that aids survival in an emergency.
Logically, basic items in a survival kit atop the IBU should be clean drinking water, food and medication. Also, materials like blankets are important for survivors to keep warm.
DESIGN OF SURVIVAL KIT:
The survival kit that I have designed is shaped like the IBU. The kit acts like a small room containing supplies and tools that are necessary for survival.
Specifications of survival kit content based on the above diagram:
1. Bucket for multipurpose use.
2. Reverse Osmosis and UV sterilization system so that water from USM invention A is suitable for drinking. Pure water can be obtained from the tap.
3. USM invention A: Product: Air Injection Nozzle for Solid-Liquid Separation using Dissolved Air Flotation Process. Water is pumped from the flood water from outside the survival kit and/or IBU and is processed using this invention to become clear, clean water. The clear water is then passed through to undergo the reverse osmosis process and UV sterilization before being suitable for drinking.
4. Cabinet that contains medical supplies, USM invention B: Haruan Spray for Burn and Wounds, USM invention C: Rapid Diagnosis for Tropical Diseases, and USM invention D: VCUSM1/2 Vaccinecandidates: Genetically Attenuated Protective and Ecologically Safe Vaccines for O139 Cholera.
5. General tools cabinet. This cabinet stores general tools that may be needed for survival, example, torchlight, swiss knife, rope, etc.
6. Cabinet for food storage. Basic food supply that can last 40 day for 5 people. Bread from USM invention E: A New Generation of Fibre Source from Jackfruit Seed Flour in the Production of Healthy Bread, can be used for health of survivors.
7. Blankets for the warmth of survivors.
8. General living space.
9. Floating base.
HOW THIS KIT IS USED:
The IBU is expected to withstand 40 days and nights of battering. However if a major disaster happens and the IBU breaks apart, a number of people can enter the room and lock it. The survival kit then dislodges itself from IBU becomes like a mini-IBU and can float. The reason why this survival kit is shaped like the IBU and PONDOK is so that in case of disaster and the survival kit is dislodged, other survivors can recognise the survival kits with human survivors in it and help them.
Hopefully, if implemented, this will help survivors to... survive.
